A selection of sailing ships modelled to mimic 14th/15th century technology. The basic design was styled after the late 15th century English Roundship, with aesthetic influences from earlier Hanseatic designs. All ships were designed with a 3:1 waterline ratio, which at the time was required to maintain buoyancy and balance.
All ships are fitted with fake interior effects, which give the illusion of the ships having a complete interior whilst the player passes by. All materials used for the package are standard legacy pipeline materials, and can be easily converted across render pipelines. All material textures have been rendered in 2k resolution, UV tiled as required to provide the best detail quality possible.
The package includes 5 ships:
1) Sailing Ship 1 - (37,614 triangles total) - A medium sized merchant vessel with 2 sailing masts and a tail fin to aid steering. Scaled to measure 35m at the waterline.
2) Sailing Ship 2 - (20,050 triangle total) - A smaller single mast design, with 25m length at waterline.
3) Sailing Ship 3 - (58,018 triangle total) - A much larger and slightly fantastical design, this 52.5m merchant ship is larger than that used at the time. It was modelled primarily for aesthetic appeal. The design features 3 sailing masts and a tailfin to aid steering.
4) War Sailing Ship 1 - (31,761 triangle total) - A variant of Sailing Ship 2, outfitted for war. In a time before cannons were introduced in the late Tudor era, Naval combat often involved merchant ships fitted with additional decks to the forward and aft, known as Castle platforms, for archers to support boarding parties. Combat would involve ramming enemy ships and impaling them upon a battering ram, boarding and taking the ship by force. For additional offensive power, such ships were occasionally fitted with large crossbows similar to the ancient Roman Ballista. This prefab has fitted with a single small Ballista which can be removed if desired.
5) War Sailing Ship 2 - (61,259 triangle total) - A more fantastical design of dedicated warship, larger and more formidable that would have likely been seen in this era. The design features 2 mounted Castle platforms to the aft deck, and the forward hull has been modified to integrate battlements for archers. A large battering ram is fortified with multiples secondary rams to prevent hull damage during collision, as well as to appear more intimidating. The deck is fitted with 6 large Ballista cannons which can be removed if necessary.
In addition to the sailing ships, the package contains the separated Ballista prefab (2,722 triangle) that can be used elsewhere in your game, and a small, fairly simplified dockyard (2,307 triangle) used in the demo scene.
Please note that the water shader and skybox used in the store images were taken from free assets available on the store. There are for demonstration purposes only and are not included within the package.
