The Italian Cypress, or Mediterranean Cypress, grows as a strict and tight column with a conical crown. Its unique appearance and tolerance to heat make it a landscaping favorite in the US, although its native turf is in Southwest Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean. The ‘Stricta’ form is so common in the Mediterranean that it’s one of the most defining features of their landscape. It can thrive in rocky areas, seasides and mountains. The leaves are very small, scale-like branchlets with a deep green that often shifts to yellow at the tip. The average height of a mature tree is 164 ft. They are evergreen but display a wide array of brown and yellow needles at its base when short on nutrients.
