A node-based Unity Editor tool for creating stylized VFX textures and sprite sheets. Edit recipes or Bezier key poses, preview changes, then export PNGs with matching import settings.VFXGen is an Editor-only tool with no render pipeline dependency: it exports standard PNG textures and sprite sheets that work in any pipeline. Validated in Built-in and URP on Unity 2022.3; HDRP not yet verified. The included demo scene uses a small pipeline-neutral particle shader and opens in Built-in and URP projects without extra setup.A node-based Editor tool for creating stylized VFX textures and sprite sheets inside Unity.Start with an editable recipe for a slash, impact burst, rune circle, lightning or fire loop. Select a node, change its controls and preview the result, then export a PNG or sprite sheet into your project. Open the tool from Tools > ChunHu > VFXGen; a one-time window on first import and the included README walk through the first export and the demo scene. Why VFX artists use itEditable recipes. Change shapes, colours and timing in the node graph, save your own recipe and return to it for another variation.Fast flipbooks, in-betweens computed. Draw a few key poses with Bezier and the engine computes every frame between them; a Clip Time node animates anything else in the graph. What you scrub is exactly what gets exported.Made in Unity, ready on export. Author, preview and export in the Editor, with import settings set for how each texture is used.Tiles when it should. Pick the texture’s use (effect, horizontal strip or continuous texture) and the graph wraps each axis accordingly; Check Seams points at the node that breaks the tiling.Zero dependencies, zero footprint. No Package Manager dependency, no pipeline settings touched, and the generator compiles nothing into your build. You ship PNGs.What’s included97 editable recipes: 86 effects and 11 step-by-step studies, plus the ready-made Blend Stack group in the node library51 nodes, curated to combine rather than overlapA demo scene with four effects exported from the recipes (a looping fire, a zigzag bolt, a magic circle and a flare), each playing on a particle system through a small shader that works in Built-in and URP. Right-click any of their textures to open the recipe that made it.English documentation. The interface is in English with Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean language packs; other languages can be added as language packs.Support: danny730623@gmail.com · Discord: https://discord.gg/6afq8aQXSdRequirements & compatibilityUnity 2022.3 or newer; validated on 2022.3.62f3. Editor-only.Validated on Windows with Direct3D 11 (GPU rendering also checked on Direct3D 12, Vulkan and OpenGL Core); macOS and Linux are not yet verified and render on the CPU by default. GPU rendering can be switched on or off in Export Preferences.Render pipelines: the tool has no pipeline dependency and runs in Built-in and URP. HDRP is not yet verified. The demo scene opens in both without setup.Generator256, 512 or 1024 px per frame; 8-bit PNG, flipbook sheets, grayscale masks.Flipbook grids from 1×2 to 16×16, any columns by rows (2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 are one click). Non-square grids such as 1×5 export as laid out, or packed into a square texture.Recipes save and load as JSON.Footprint & provenanceNothing in the package adds code to player builds; the demo scene contains no scripts. No third-party code, fonts or audio. The four demo textures are direct exports of shipped recipes from VFXGen’s own node engine. Every recipe is a node graph built and adjusted by the author in the editor (some first drafted with AI coding assistants, as stated in the AI disclosure); no generative AI images or external datasets.Out of scopeEXR / HDR output, PBR texture sets (normal, metallic, smoothness)Documentation is included in the package: README.md and the Documentation folder (user guide, reviewer quick start, node reference).AI coding assistants (Claude Code and OpenAI Codex) assisted with C# Editor code, shader code, automated test code, documentation, the Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese interface language packs (machine-translated, not yet reviewed by native speakers) and the first draft of some node-graph recipes. The author directed development, reviewed the code, selected and adjusted recipe parameters and visual results, and integrated the work into the Unity Editor workflow. Automated checks cover rendering, recipe loading, export settings and Editor interactions. The package contains no AI-generated images. Its four demo textures (a looping fire sprite sheet, a zigzag bolt sprite sheet, a magic circle and a flare) are direct exports of shipped recipes by VFXGen’s own deterministic node-graph engine, and each carries its recipe in its import settings. The only other image is a small grey picture symbol (frame, sun and hills) built from simple shapes, used as the Bitmap node’s library thumbnail. The 97 recipes are node graphs built and adjusted by the author in the editor; some were first drafted with those assistants and then reviewed and adjusted by the author. No generative AI image model, external dataset or third-party generator was used. The resulting package provides an editable node-based authoring tool, Bezier pose animation, PNG and sprite-sheet export, automatic texture import settings, example recipes and a demo scene. The tool runs locally in the Unity Editor and does not require an AI service, model download or API key.
