Find broken keyboard and controller navigation in uGUI menus before QA does.Focus QA is a focused editor tool for testing keyboard and controller navigation in Unity UI/uGUI.Open a menu scene and scan it in Edit mode, or enter Play mode and capture a menu after gameplay code has built or changed it. Focus QA builds the effective directional focus graph for every eligible uGUI Selectable and shows exactly where Up, Down, Left, and Right lead.It automatically reports:• Missing or invalid initial focus• Missing or multiple active EventSystems• Controls with no directional path from initial focus• Dead ends• Reachable closed navigation traps• Invalid targets, including disabled and non-interactable controls• Directional self-loopsIn Editor Play mode, start the passive focus-session recorder and use the menu normally. Focus QA retains the initial and final focus, unique visited targets, ordered EventSystem selection changes, and moments where focus became empty. It observes selection only: it does not inject input, click, submit, change values, or guess which key caused a transition.Save two named runtime captures in the same Play session to see exactly what changed: controls added or removed, eligibility changes, retargeted directions, changed focus, and findings added or resolved. Focus QA matches the live Unity component rather than a regenerated scan ID, so a destroyed and recreated control is not quietly mistaken for the same one.Use the graph to focus on a finding, hide unrelated directions or hierarchy branches, inspect every incoming edge, and highlight the shortest valid route from initial focus. Select the matching scene object and simulate directional movement from any eligible control. Simulation uses the captured scan and does not click controls, invoke submit events, change values, or alter the live EventSystem selection.Export a single-file offline HTML report for review or deterministic JSON for QA tooling and evidence.Included:• Dockable Unity Editor window• Read-only active-scene scanner• Manual Editor Play Mode capture for runtime-created and runtime-altered uGUI states• Explicitly started passive focus-session recording with visited-target, transition, and focus-loss evidence• Named same-session runtime-state comparison for controls, eligibility, directional outcomes, focus, and findings• Four-direction uGUI navigation resolver• Focus graph with selection, pan, zoom, focused-finding view, findings-only view, direction toggles, and Canvas/branch areas• Deterministic shortest-path explanations and incoming-edge inspection• Nine validation rules• Non-invasive navigation simulator with short traversal history• HTML and JSON reports• Four visually game-like prototype menus provided only to demonstrate Focus QA in game-style layouts, including a complex 40-control command center with 12 mixed findings. They are not production menu templates or gameplay systems.• Twelve focused one-scene examples for individual rules and edge cases• A “12 Problems” diagnostic scene provided only to demonstrate the analyzer, focus graph, simulation, runtime recording, and report workflow. It is not a production menu template.• Offline installation, quick-start, rule, troubleshooting, privacy, compatibility, limitation, support, and schema documentationScope and limitations:Focus QA version 2.2 analyzes one active scene’s current uGUI state at a time: an Edit mode scene snapshot or a manually captured Editor Play Mode runtime state. Up to 20 named captures can be retained and compared within the current Play session, and one optional focus-session recording can be attached to the current runtime evidence. It does not inspect UI Toolkit, standalone player builds, custom focus managers, gameplay input scripts, visual occlusion, alpha-only visibility, animation state, or prefabs in isolation. Runtime capture is a manual point-in-time Editor snapshot, not continuous analysis or input automation. The recorder cannot identify which input or script caused a selection change. “Pointer-only” findings mean there is no directional path in the captured graph; they do not claim knowledge of every custom runtime script.Saved states are cleared when Play mode ends and are not cross-session baselines. There are no automatic fixes, continuous background scanning, accounts, subscriptions, telemetry, analytics, or network services.Features• Scan the currently open uGUI scene in Edit mode• Capture runtime-created or modified uGUI states in Editor Play Mode• Build and visualize effective Up, Down, Left, and Right navigation• Detect missing or invalid initial focus, unreachable controls, dead ends, closed traps, invalid targets, and self-loops• Record actual EventSystem focus changes during Play Mode• Save and compare up to 20 named runtime captures within one Play session• Inspect incoming connections and shortest routes from initial focus• Simulate directional movement without invoking UI actions• Export self-contained HTML and deterministic JSON reports• Includes focused diagnostic scenes and four game-style demonstration menusCompatibility• Product version: 2.2.0• Minimum Unity version: 2022.3.21f1• Verified with Unity 2022.3.21f1 and uGUI 1.0.0• Verified with Unity 6000.3.8f1 and uGUI 2.0.0• Supports Built-in, URP, HDRP, and custom render pipelines• Editor-only; no runtime code is added to player builds• Release qualification performed on Windows 11• No operating-system-specific code is usedRequirements• Unity UI/uGUI (com.unity.ugui)• A scene containing uGUI Selectable controls• No other Asset Store packages requiredAdditional information• Installs under Assets/FocusQA• Offline documentation is included under Assets/FocusQA/Documentation• Open the tool through Tools > Focus QA• No native plugins or executables• No accounts, external APIs, network access, telemetry, or analytics• No third-party components• Licensed under the standard Unity Asset Store EULASupportsupport@featherworksstudios.comhttps://featherworksstudios.com/Typical response time: 3–5 business daysOpenAI Codex assisted with portions of the C# implementation, automated tests, documentation, and release preparation.
