A unique 2D endless runner. Run alone or with a buddy. You tap to match the color of your buddy and yourself to the lasers ahead. Two game scenes, a shop, and a fully customizable game editor.PLAY DEMORunning Buddies is a complete, finished 2D endless runner. Two characters run on their own. Colored laser bars scroll in at them, and a tap flips a character between its two colors: match the bar and you score, miss it and the run is over. It plays in landscape with one thumb, so it suits mobile, and it runs in a browser too.Everything a released game needs is already wired up. A main menu, two game modes, a shop with unlockable skins, coin and gem pickups, per-mode high scores, persistent saves, parallax backgrounds, particle effects, music and sound effects with working toggles, and a game over flow with a retry. It is built to be rebranded rather than dissected. Tools > Running Buddies > Customize My Game opens one window where you rename the game, pick its music and its sounds, turn coins and gems on or off with their own sprites and values, and add a new playable character by dropping in two sprite sheets and setting a price. Everything that window changes is written to assets, so it survives a restart and goes into your build. The difficulty ramp, the shop catalog and the audio set are all ScriptableObjects, so you can retune the whole game without opening a script. The C# is short, namespaced and commented throughout, and the comments explain why a decision was made rather than restating the line. A usage guide PDF ships inside the package along with blank PNG templates at the correct pixel size for every piece of art in the game, so your own characters, lasers, pickups and parallax layers drop straight in.Asset uses Titan One under SIL Open Font License 1.1; see Third-Party Notices.txt file in package for details.Requires Unity 6000.5 (Unity 6.5) or later with the Universal Render Pipeline 17.5, Input System 1.20, uGUI 2.5 (includes TextMesh Pro) and 2D Sprite. These are declared as package dependencies, so Unity installs any that are missing on import. The first time you open a scene, click Import TMP Essentials in the TMP Importer window (or use Window > TextMeshPro > Import TMP Essential Resources). Until then, text will not display.Unity 6000.5.8f1, Universal Render Pipeline with the 2D RendererComplete project with two scenes, MainMenu and Game, and no paid third-party dependenciesCommented C# scripts, organisedConfigured for Android, iOS, WebGL, and desktop- Suno, on a Pro plan: generated the three music tracks in Audio/Music (MainMenu, RunAlone, WithBuddy). I used them as Suno exported them, with no edits.- Claude (Anthropic), through Claude Code: helped me update my 2013 Ludum Dare code to Unity 6 and add features. It also helped write the scripts that rendered the alternate skins, the app icon and the plain UI shapes (buttons, cards, shadows, coin, gem, sparks), the code that synthesises the sound effects, and the documentation. I reviewed, tested and adjusted all of it.No AI was used for the characters, pets, backgrounds or sprite sheets. I made those in 2013 for Ludum Dare which you can find in waybackmachine's archive.
