License your Unity runtime builds and standalone apps from one backend you host yourself. Named and floating licenses, check-in/check-out, modules, user groups and more.A customer wants 40 seats across three sites. Another runs your tool across three machines, and a trial that expired last week still holds a seat.A trial expired last week, but the session is still open and blocking a real buyer.Without a license layer, you track that in a spreadsheet.Or you lose the revenue.Universal License System (ULS) lives up to the name. One system for everything you ship in Unity — your standalone builds and applications — run from a backend on your own server.Used in production, not just published. This package is built on the same licensing platform we run in-house to license-gate our own commercial 3D and industrial software. We depend on it ourselves — so it's maintained accordingly.🔑 Named licenses — bind a seat to one user, so you always know exactly who runs your software.🔄 Floating licenses — share a seat pool across a team, so a license frees up the second someone logs off.⏱️ Check-in / check-out with verification pings — reclaim idle seats automatically, so a forgotten session never blocks a paying user.🧩 Modules — gate features and add-ons per license, so you sell tiers and upsells from a single build.👥 User groups — manage hundreds of users by group instead of one by one, so onboarding a whole site takes minutes.🖥️ One backend for every build — Windows, macOS, Linux, WebGL and Android from a single license system, so your whole catalog runs on one stack.🛡️ Self-hosted backend, full source via Git — run the license server on your own infrastructure.Your user data stays on your servers and never touches a third party, so GDPR compliance stays in your hands. No per-seat fees to anyone.Under the hoodAuth: OAuth 2.0 Authorization Code + PKCE against any OIDC provider (Keycloak ships in the Docker quickstart). Desktop tokens stored AES-256 encrypted at rest.License service: a lean REST backend (acquire / heartbeat / release / generate-offline), seats persisted in PostgreSQL.Online (named/floating): JWT-authenticated seat acquire + periodic heartbeat — idle or closed sessions are reclaimed automatically.Offline: RSA-SHA256-signed license envelope ({data, sig}), verified client-side against your public key — works fully air-gapped.Keys: generate your own RSA keypair via the in-Editor Key Setup Wizard; only the public key ships in your build, the private key never leaves your server.Platforms: Unity Editor, Windows/macOS/Linux standalone, WebGL (OIDC redirect callback) and Android (deep-link callback).Quickstart: docker compose up brings Keycloak + PostgreSQL + the license service online; demo scene and blueprint generator included.⚠️ One honest note: you host the backend yourself. You get the complete source through Git and run it on your own server. Want a zero-setup cloud service? This isn't that. Want to own your licensing stack end to end? This is built for you.In the package: the Unity-side asset plus the full backend source via Git. Works with Unity 2022.3 LTS and up, and is render-pipeline-agnostic — it doesn't touch rendering, so URP/HDRP/Built-in all work.Data & Privacy: The package authenticates users against the OIDC provider you configure and stores the resulting tokens locally on the device (encrypted at rest on desktop). To bind floating seats it sends a device identifier and the user's identity to the license server you host — no data is sent to the package author. You are the data controller; see the bundled Documentation~/Privacy.md.Licensing for Unity runtime builds and standalone applicationsNamed license model (1 seat = 1 user)Floating license model (shared seat pool, concurrency-limited)License check-in / check-out with periodic verification (heartbeat) pingsModule-based entitlement system (gate features/add-ons per license)User and user-group managementSite licenses (multi-seat per organization)Per-license expiry / validity handlingOnline licensing via OAuth 2.0 Authorization Code + PKCE against any OIDC providerOffline licensing via RSA-SHA256-signed license files, verified client-side (air-gapped capable)Self-hostable backend — full source code included via GitBackend stack: Node.js + Express.jsDatabase: PostgreSQLIdentity: OIDC — Keycloak included in the Docker quickstart (swappable for any OIDC IdP)Server requirements: Docker + Docker Compose (any Linux / Windows / macOS Docker host)Supported build targets: Standalone (Windows / macOS / Linux), WebGL, AndroidUnity: 2022.3 LTS and newerRender pipelines: render-pipeline-agnostic — works with Built-in, URP and HDRPDependencies: BouncyCastle (MIT), Newtonsoft.Json (MIT)License: Unity-side asset under the Unity Asset Store EULA; self-hosted backend (Git) under the MIT LicenseThis package was originally written by hand by our developers over a considerable period of time. The AI-based coding assistant (large language model - Anthropic Claude) was then used to refactor and harden that existing code and to bring it in line with common industry conventions. How AI was used:Refactoring and code review of manually written C# and backend (Node.js) source code.Suggesting robustness and security improvements (input validation, error handling, edge-case handling) on top of existing logic.Drafting and editing documentation and code comments.Modifications and value added beyond the AI output: the original implementation, architecture and design decisions are our own. Every AI suggestion was reviewed, edited, tested and integrated by our developers — no code was shipped unreviewed. The package contains only source code, configuration and documentation. No art, audio, 3D models, textures or other media assets were generated using AI.
