That means, Floating UI should work in all places where UI Toolkit is supported.⚡ UI ToolkitFloating UI works with Unity's modern UI System 'UI Toolkit'. Any UI created with UI Toolkit (in UI Builder or through C#) can be easily made into a floating UI.⚡ Robust UI positioningYour 3D object rotates? Your camera flips upside down? No problem! Your floating UI will be positioned where you want it to be, for example always above.⚡ Powerful settingsMake the top left corner of your UI stick to a specific position on your 3D object. Or make your UI always hover below your 3D object. Powerful settings give you a lot of control.⚡ Optimised performanceMoving UI and updating it every frame can get costly fast. Floating UI uses clever techniques to skip work, caches values for reuse later and tries to avoid costly Unity API calls.⚡ UI is in screen space, not in world spaceFloating UI works with screen space UI, which is placed on top of the rendered 3D scene. This has some advantages compared to world space UI, see section further down.⚡ Hide or change UIYour UI can be made invisible or modified when the tracked 3D object is hidden behind something in your scene. Imagine a laptop. Then, the screen would be a world space UI. Choose this if your UI needs to be part of the 3D scene (like the laptop screen) and don't use Floating UI.Screen space UI (used by Floating UI) is placed on top of the rendered 3D scene. Imagine looking at your 3D scene through a window. Then, the UI would be a sticker on the window. Floating UI makes this type of UI follow a 3D position. This has some advantages compared to world space UI:↪ UI is always legible: Screen space UI always has the same size regardless of movement in your scene. Also, it is not affected by things like lighting, fog and other effects in 3D. World space UI on the other hand has a 3D position & orientation. This causes the UI to appear smaller/bigger or warped depending on from where you are looking. Also it is affected by lighting and other effects in 3D. Potentially this makes the UI hard to read.↪ Supports user interaction: UI Toolkit supports user interaction like clicking buttons when using screen space UI. World space UI on the other hand is not officially supported.↪ UI can be visible through scene objects: By default screen space UI is not blocked by scene objects. This is useful for things like waypoint markers. But Floating UI can also hide the UI if the 3D object is occluded. Giving you both options.✨ Building UI is entirely done using UI ToolkitFloating UI moves and modifies the UI but does not play any role in building it. Use the same tools without having to learn a new system to build your UI.✨ Important limitations to be aware ofOnly UI created with Unity's modern UI System 'UI Toolkit' can be made into a floating UI. The older UI system 'Unity UI (uGUI)' is not supported. (but can be used alongside)Minimum Unity version 2021.x.x. Confirmed to work up to version 2023.x.x.No support for AR/VR projectsFloating UI can not check if your 3D object is occluded by other UI, SpriteRenderers, Textures, ...
