"Buyong" means "lotus." Originally built in 1707 (33rd year of King Sukjong's reign) as Taeksujae (澤水齋), it was renovated in 1793 (17th year of King Jeongjo's reign) and renamed Buyongjeong. When viewed from the roof, Buyongjeong has a unique shape resembling the number 10 (十). It was designated a National Treasure in 2012.To the east of Buyongji Pond stands Yeonghwadang (暎花堂), where the king personally observed and administered the civil service examinations.
