It was the king’s office where he would perform his daily work with his subjects. Daily morning assemblies, work reports, and academic discussions were held here. It was originally named Jogyecheong Office until it gained its current name of Seonjeongjeon Hall in 1461 (the 7th year of King Sejo). Seonjeongjeon Hall was destroyed after the Japanese invasion (1592) and the Injo coup (1623), only to be rebuilt by moving a building of the old Ingyeonggung Palace in 1647 (the 25th year of King Injo).
