Seonwonjeon Hall was formerly Chunhwijeon Hall (Gyeonghwadang Hall), which was moved from Gyeongdeokgung Palace (today's Gyeonghuigung Palace) to Changdeokgung Palace in 1656 (the 7th year of King Hyojong). The building was used with the name Seonwonjeon Hall from the time of King Sukjong. Later, new Seonwonjeon Hall was established in the deep section of the Secret Garden in 1921, housing all royal portraits.
