“2D MAP EDITOR” is a flexible, efficient and intuitive proposal to generate and edit 2D meshes (from an image, paint it yourself or procedurally) that adapt perfectly to a predefined design. The maps resulting from the application of the procedural map generation techniques existent in the market, have as a common denominator and main drawback that the resulting map, no matter how impressive it may be, is not the one that the designer had in his head and that editing the resulting map to adapt it to the desired map becomes a task that is almost impossible, so either the designer adapts to the map, or the maps generated through these techniques end up being testing tools and not production maps.In the development process of my previous published work “JOIN THE DOTS MAP GENERATOR 2D”, playing with the design parameters, an infinite number of maps of almost any shape imaginable were generated in a minimum of time, but with a marked factor of randomness and the aforementioned difficulty in editing the resulting maps inherent to procedural generation techniques.“2D MAP EDITOR” achieves the following objectives:· Edit procedurally generated maps at the pixel level to be able to adapt them in an efficient, fast and intuitive way to the ideal map in which I want a “gameplay” to develop, as if I could paint and erase the pixels on the screen by choosing only the pencil thickness.· Draw a map from scratch and create a functional “2D mesh” with the same shape that I have drawn.· Download an image from the internet and create a map that has said image as a pattern, then decide if I want to paint by hand or erase something from the image and create a functional “2D mesh” with the same shape.• The user interface is so simple that it makes it an essential tool for designers and artists, as well as for programmers.• The UI is mainly proposed through parameters exposed in “scriptable objects”, an approach that greatly facilitates the saving of the generated maps, largely avoiding touching parts of the “asset” that could break its functionality.• Proposes integrated solutions for the generation of the map (from an image, paint it yourself, procedurally, or a mix of them) as well as the integration of art in the map created through a material assignment interface. All these systems working together allow you to automate the creation of complex 2D mesh maps with pre-established materials applied.• In the process of “playing” with the parameters of the user interface to generate the map, it can show in real time the effects of the variations that the user is making, greatly facilitating the process of searching for a desired result.• Easy to use UI. No programming required.• All source code is included.• “MAP EDITOR 2D” is lightweight and optimized for performance.• The package works with all processing pipelines (integrated, URP, SRP, HDRP, custom RP). It is not a graphics package. You will only need to convert sample model materials for your SRP if you are not using the built-in SRP.
