The format stores a texture and depthmap for a foreground and background layer.The player uses shaders to warp a foreground and background mesh to rebuild the 3D geometry of the scene for each frame of video. This enables efficient compression of volumetric video using standard codecs like h264.Two layers (foreground and background) are stored so it is possible to look behind objects. The background layer is inpainted using machine learning by Lifecast's software.
